Working at height without edge protection or without using any fall arresting system all are examples of work practices that could very quickly end in a tragedy. So you need to take training and receive individual instructions on how to use and maintain your fall protection equipments. Objects falling from a height are also capable of causing serious injury to people and damage to other materials that they hit on equipment or tools. Before performing these work at higher elevations the employees must ensure these safety tip.

- Ensure that your safety shoes are in good condition before climbing the ladders.

- Hardhats are to have chin straps attached to prevent hard hats from falling off.

- Use ladders and scaffolding to gain access to your work areas.

- Ensure that you have put on a safety harness securely and that at all times when working in excess of 1.8 meters above the ground, the dual lanyards are secured.

- Ensure that the safety harness has been inspected, tagged with the correct colour for the month, also the parts of harness must be protected from sharp edges.

- Ensure that the point that you have attached the lanyards is secure and will safely support your weight in the event of you falling.

- Only skilled and experienced persons should work in elevated positions.

- When working with tools, secure spanners, hammers with a lanyard of some type so that tools do not fall and injure someone below.

- Tools and small equipment to be brought up to working station level using ropes / cranes and containers / carry bags with tools etc inside.

- Do not throw tools, equipment etc from one level to another use ropes with carry bags.

- Ensure that there are no people below where you are working.

- Ensure the ladders using have been inspected and tagged with the colour code for the month.

- Barricade and warning signs must be provided where there is risk of falling objects.
